INFO: Operated by Landmark since 1991, the 4-screen Opera Plaza Cinema reopened in November of 2021 with an all-new look and significant technical upgrades, thanks to the San Francisco Neighborhood Theatre Foundation.
"The mission of the Theater Foundation has always been to preserve and activate neighborhood theatres and enliven the movie-going experience throughout San Francisco. Theatres provide important spin-off economic activity to surrounding businesses, help keep neighborhood commercial districts vibrant and offer movie-goers a more diverse offering of art, independent and international films,” says Jack Bair, Executive Vice President & Chief Legal Officer San Francisco Giants.
Renovations include new state-of-the-art auditoriums with large screens, luxury recliners and rockers. A new greatly expanded concession stand will allow for upgraded food and beverage service, including the introduction of beer and wine in the coming months. New digital signage and a fresh interior design are among the remodel features.
Located on Van Ness Avenue near San Francisco's Civic Center, the Opera Plaza Cinema caters to filmgoers who appreciate a quiet, comfortable experience. With two cozy screening rooms and two larger auditoriums, San Francisco film lovers always have a choice. Centrally located, the OPC is within two blocks of City Hall, Davies Symphony Hall, and the amazing Downtown Library building. The Opera Plaza Cinema first opened in 1984.
PARKING: Available on surrounding neighborhood streets. Underground valet parking is also available at Opera Plaza Mall. Opera Plaza Cinema is now validating parking for ticket holders. The first hour is free with validation; afterward, rates are $7/hour with a $28 maximum in a 24-hour period.
