The Salesman, Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Language Film, is an intimate and suspenseful drama from award-winning writer/director Asghar Farhadi (A Separation, The Past, About Elly, Fireworks Wednesday). Emad (Shahab Hosseini) and Rana (Taraneh Alidoosti), a young couple living in Tehran, are acting together in an amateur production of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. When their flat becomes damaged, they are forced to move hurriedly into a new apartment. However, once relocated, a sudden eruption of violence linked to the previous tenant of their new home dramatically changes the couple’s life, creating a simmering tension between husband and wife. A master at exposing domestic discord through his multi-layered screenplays, Farhadi’s slow-burning, visceral drama explores the psychology of vengeance and a relationship put under strain while continuing to explore the condition of women in Iran and the male psyche. Winner of Best Actor (Hosseini) and Best Screenplay (Farhadi) at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, as well as Best Foreign Language Film from the National Board of Review. Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Language Film. (Fully subtitled)
