Written and directed by Emilio Estevez, The Public is the story of downtown Cincinnati librarians Stuart Goodson (Estevez) and Myra (Jena Malone), who see their regular winter day shaken up when homeless patrons decide to take shelter in their library for the night. What begins as an act of civil disobedience becomes a standoff with police and a rush-to-judgment media constantly speculating about what's really happening. This crowd-pleasing David versus Goliath story tackles some of our nation's most challenging issues, homelessness and mental illness and sets the drama inside one of the last bastions of democracy-in-action: your public library. Supporting cast includes Taylor Schilling, Alec Baldwin, Gabrielle Union, Christian Slater and Jeffrey Wright.
