Trine Dyrholm (The Commune, Love Is All You Need, In a Better Place) gives a riveting, visceral performance as the fading singer-songwriter Nico in the last year of her life. Approaching fifty, Nico leads a solitary, low-key existence in Manchester, far from her 1960s glam days as a Warhol superstar and celebrated vocalist for cult band The Velvet Underground. Her career seems over and she doesn’t care much anymore about her looks, but her new manager Richard (John Gordon Sinclair, Gregory’s Girl) gives Nico some needed drive to hit the road again to tour Europe. Struggling with addiction and personal demons, she longs to rebuild a relationship with her at-risk teenage son, whose custody she lost long ago. A brave and uncompromising musician, Nico’s story is the story of a rebirth: of an artist, of a mother, of the woman behind the icon. With Anamaria Marinca (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days). Written and directed by Susanna Nicchiarelli. (Partially subtitled)
