This incredibly tense domestic thriller will keep audiences guessing and leave them with their hearts in their throats. It begins quietly at a judicial hearing to decide custody of 11-year-old Julien (Thomas Gioria) living with his divorced mother Miriam (Léa Drucker). His father Antoine (Denis Ménochet) claims he loves his son and just wants to keep in touch; Miriam says he is violent. Fatefully, the family law judge awards Antoine weekend visiting rights. Antoine, who has not given up on his marriage, immediately begins to manipulate Julien to try to reach Miriam, who is in hiding. A hostage to the escalating conflict between his parents, young Julien is pushed to the edge to try to prevent the worst from happening. Director Xavier Legrand, a former child actor who appeared in Louis Malle’s Au Revoir Les Enfants, has cited Kramer vs. Kramer, The Shining and The Night of the Hunter as inspirations for Custody. His feature debut is a companion piece to his Oscar-nominated short film Just Before Losing Everything. Winner of the Silver Lion for Best Director at the Venice Film Festival. (Fully subtitled)
