Adapted from John Cameron Mitchell's (Shortbus) critically acclaimed off-Broadway rock theatre hit, this dazzling film tells the story of Hedwig, an "internationally ignored" rock and roll songstress hailing from Communist East Germany. Born a boy named Hansel, whose life dream is to find his other half, he submits to a sex change operation in order to marry an American GI and get over the Wall to freedom. The operation is botched, leaving her with the aforementioned 'angry inch.' Through a collage of songs, flashbacks and animation, a bitter yet witty Hedwig tells her life story...
