Legendary filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni (The Passenger, Blow-Up) applies his unconventional style of storytelling to depict a crisis period in 1960s American counterculture. A campus radical and possible fugitive (Mark Frechette) crosses paths with a young professional woman (Daria Halprin) and together they spend a life-altering sojourn in the Death Valley destination of the title, experiencing the disillusionment, confusion and often sudden violence embedded in the society at large. A time capsule of an era whose legacy continues to influence us, with original music from Pink Floyd and Grateful Dead, and screenplay contributions from Sam Shepard (Paris, Texas).
