A film crew working on a low-budget horror film about physical deformities sees the cast members coming to terms with their own strange dramas in this thought-provoking satire of cult movies. The leading lady (Jess Weixler, Teeth) is a Hollywood star slumming in a pretentious European auteur’s production, but she finds herself falling in love with the deformed leading man (Adam Pearson, Under the Skin) who, though he looks similar to the Elephant Man, is a friendly, kind and unassuming guy. Cutting between scenes of the movie being filmed, and the off-screen action, Chained for Life explores territory reminiscent of Tod Browning and David Lynch, but from its own perspective, highly personal to writer/director Aaron Schimberg (Go Down Death).
