Based on the memoir by the acclaimed British author and illustrator Raymond Briggs (The Snowman, When the Wind Blows), this beautifully hand-drawn animated feature film tells the heartfelt true story of Raymond’s parents—Ethel and Ernest—two ordinary Londoners living through a period of extraordinary events and immense social change. Heart-warming, humorous and bittersweet, the film follows the lives of shy lady’s maid Ethel and jolly milkman Ernest from their first chance meeting in 1928, through the birth of their son Raymond in 1934, through surviving London in the Blitz, to their deaths, within months of each other, in 1971. Ethel & Ernest is a wonderfully amusing and affectionate tribute to an ordinary couple and an extraordinary generation. Features great voice characterizations by award-winning actors Jim Broadbent, Brenda Blethyn and Luke Treadaway, with music by internationally renowned composer Carl Davis and Sir Paul McCartney, who wrote and performed a special song for the film. Written and directed by Roger Mainwood (an animator on Heavy Metal and When the Wind Blows).
