Writer/director Jean-Luc Godard’s subversive foray into commercial filmmaking is a one-of-a-kind rumination on the art of cinema. Contempt stars Michel Piccoli as a screenwriter torn between the demands of a proud European director (legendary director Fritz Lang, playing himself); a crude and arrogant American producer (Jack Palance) who’s only interested in filling the screen with topless mermaids; and his disillusioned wife, Camille (Brigitte Bardot), as he attempts to doctor the script for a new film version of The Odyssey. This brilliant study of marital breakdown, artistic compromise, and the cinematic process features spectacular widescreen cinematography by Raoul Coutard and an original music score by Georges Delerue. Co-starring Georgia Moll. Digitally restored! (Partially subtitled)
