Home of the Twin Cities Exclusive, the Uptown Theatre is located in the heart of the Uptown District in Minneapolis. Featuring the finest in independent film and foreign language cinema, the Uptown also screens classic midnight movies every weekend including monthly showings of the legendary Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Originally built as the Lagoon Theatre in 1916, the Uptown Theatre opened in 1939 showing George Cukor’s The Women after a fire destroyed its predecessor. It became an art film theater in 1985 after many years of repertory double features. In 2012 the Uptown closed down for seven months while a remodel took place. The Uptown reopened in its new incarnation on September 14th 2012. The Uptown now includes reserved ticketing and full bar service while still sporting a balcony and a 50-foot tower, originally placed to mark the Uptown area.
