Laced with black humor, this unexpectedly heartwarming crime comedy from Norway stars Stellan Skarsgård as Ulrik, a somewhat gentle man. Just released from 12 years of prison, Ulrik has no plans. He'd like to go straight, but the only contact he has, his former boss the crime lord Jensen (Bjørn Floberg) is strangely determined that Ulrik should revenge himself on the snitch who sent him to prison. Ulrik would rather not. He takes the job Jensen gets him fixing cars, where the lovely but surly Merete catches his eye; he takes the room arranged for him, a grim basement in the house of Jensen's battleaxe of a sister, who welcomes recreational sex. Gradually, approaching his hostile ex-wife and his stranger son, Ulrik comes more alive and starts to take charge of his new life with surprising results. A great performance by Skarsgård (Good Will Hunting, Insomnia). Directed by Hans Petter Moland (The Beautiful Country, Aberdeen, Zero Kelvin). (Fully subtitled) Official Web Site
